What is the best scooter?

Choosing a scooter can be a difficult process, especially if it's your first one and you don't really know what to look for. Here at Direct Bikes, we sell a wide range of different models at very competitive prices, and there is sure to be a model that ticks all the right boxes for you. This guide is designed to help you make the best choice when buying a scooter from us.

Engine size

The size of engine you choose will be based on several factors, the most important being your age. If you're 16, you can only ride scooters with an engine size of 50cc or smaller. However, once you turn 17 you have access to scooters and motorbikes that have an engine size of 125cc. All of the motorbikes and scooters we sell are either 50cc or 125cc, so you'll have plenty of choice from the models available.

Needs

The next biggest thing to consider is what you actually need your scooter for. If it's only for making small journeys around town, such as going to work or college, or seeing friends, then a 50cc scooter will probably be ideal. All of our 50cc scooters have a top speed of 30mph, which is all you really need for small trips.

However if you plan on making longer journeys, including going on A-roads or roads with a national speed limit, it makes sense to buy a 125cc scooter. Our 125cc scooters and motorbikes all have top speeds around 60mph, which makes them much better suited for making longer trips out of town.

Style

This is an important factor for many people when it comes to choosing which scooter is right for them. We have a number of different styles of scooter in both our 50cc and 125cc ranges, and they are suitable for all kinds of styles. If you like a classic Italian scooter style, then we have models such as the Milan, the Tommy, or the Retro. However, if you prefer a more modern scooter style then we also have models such as the Ninja, the Viper, or the Scorpion. There are many other models to choose from, so make sure you have a good look to get the one that's right for you.

Cost

It's also worth considering the overall running cost of the scooter before you buy it. A 50cc scooter is cheaper to insure, and requires less petrol, but the difference in cost for a 125cc isn't massive. Also, both of them cost the same to tax. It's worth doing a bit of research before buying, and we have plenty of helpful guides with more information on these topics.

Choosing the right scooter for your needs depends on a lot of things. We sell a wide range of different models with different engine sizes, so we're confident there will be plenty of choice for everyone. Just make sure you check out all of our products thoroughly before making your choice.
