For anyone looking at mopeds for sale UK riders could ride at age 16, welcome to Direct Bikes. Ever since our inception, we’ve been working on developing a range of high end mopeds suited to all riders. And since you can start riding a moped from the age of 16, we’ve made sure our models are 16-year-old friendly!
If you are a 16-year-old, or the parent of a 16-year-old, you might wish to go through with a purchase. Before you do, though, let’s make sure that you can actually ride the scooter you have in mind.
For a 16-year-old, the only kind of scooter that you could ride is a 50cc scooter. If that sounds disappointing, though, you are looking at this from the wrong perspective. Far from being a problem, a 50cc moped is perfect for a young and ambitious rider!
If you choose to pick up a 50cc scooter at 16, you could start riding it on a provisional driving license. You could do this with ease, so long as you pass your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT). With your CBT, you need to show that you can handle the very basic foundations of being a rider.
Prove that, and you can start riding as soon as you get your own moped. With so many moped for sale UK teenagers could start riding today, we make getting into scooter riding easy. What, though, do you need to get?
Now that you have your CBT (congratulations!), you could go and get your provisional driving license. This is going to make sure that you could get the ID that you need to start legally riding. Although keep in mind that your provisional and your CBT do come with some limitations. Many riders forget about these, and that can be an expensive mistake.
If you do decide to get a provisional driving license, then you should be able to:
If you do all of the above, then you are going to be able to start riding a 50cc moped from a young age. What about going further, though?
Next up, we recommend that any 16-year-old looking to get the most out of their moped gets their AM. Your AM license is achievable from age 16+, and it would mean that you could negate the first limits above. You would be able to drive at a top speed of 28mph/30mph, but you could also now pick up a passenger.
Given how eager you likely are to give friends and family a shot on your new scooter, that should be very exciting. We recommend that you take action and get your AM license as soon as you can. It’s going to be crucial to making sure you can start riding without the limits imposed on you above.
The only thing that your AM does not allow is to drive your 50cc on a motorway. There are no legal means of doing this. A 50cc, with a top speed of 30mph, is simply not fast enough to handle the motorway.
What about when you reach the age of seventeen, then? Does this change anything for you?
Yes, it does indeed. You have the option to start riding a 125cc scooter for sale from Direct Bikes. To ride this as a minimum, you need to get your CBT and your provisional. Obtained with these, your scooter is going to be limited to the same top speed and location limits as your 50cc. However, if you were to step it up and get a more powerful license then you could drive much faster.
With a 125cc moped being capable of reaching a top speed of 60mh, you’ll likely want to experience that. To do that, though, you need to go and obtain a very particular kind of license.
This is the most common license for a 17-19 year old to go for. At 19, you could apply for your A2. This is a much more diverse license, allowing you to exceed 300cc in terms of motor power. However, at Direct Bikes, we only sell 50cc and 125cc models. So, you can ride anything that we sell if you go and get your A2 license!
That’s going to let you take your 125cc scooter to a whole new level. You could start riding with a passenger, and you could take off those L plates. You could also reach a top speed of 60mph, and you would now be permitted to ride on the motorway.
Passing either your AM or A1 license is going to involve passing a practical and a theoretical examination. If you can pass, then you will be able to drive anything from Direct Bikes!
